-
The biggest development in the history of MK outside of the city centre
-
The site is 74 acres in total
-
Construction of the entire site will last for approximately three years
-
The project is the result of a collaboration between InterMK, ASDA, IKEA and the public sector of Milton Keynes, led by Milton Keynes Council and the Government's regeneration agency English Partnerships.
-
Pete Winkelman is the Managing Director of InterMK, parent company of MK Dons and will be responsible for the operation of the new stadium and arena complex.
-
The complex will combine a 30,000 seat stadium - the permanent home of the MK Dons - with a 5,000 seat indoor arena, where the MK Lions basketball team will be based. There will also be a 1,000 seat conference centre, plus a hotel, restaurants and retail superstores for ASDA and IKEA.
-
The Stadium will have a capacity of 35,000 for concerts and seat 30,000 for sporting events and the indoor Arena will have a concert capacity of 6,500, with 5,000 seats for basketball.
-
Phase One provides for an inward investment of £100 million: £50 million for the stadium and infrastructure and £50 million for the ASDA and IKEA superstores
-
Stadium cost of £50 million includes £5 million investment in the roads adjacent to the site and £3 million for Bletchley regeneration including Bletchley Town Centre improvements, enhanced public transport, improved community facilities including a new Irish Centre and a major investment at Derwent Drive to create one of the region's best mini soccer centres
-
Over 2000 jobs will be created in Phase One: 1000 at ASDA, 600 at IKEA, 600 at the Stadium
-
The Stadium is designed to UEFA's Four Star specification by HOK SVE (world's leading stadium architects - responsible for the new Wembley Stadium, Telstra Stadium in Sydney, Millennium Stadium Cardiff, Arsenal's new stadium at Ashburton Grove, the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, the London Arena at The Dome and the new Ascot race course development)
-
Local company Buckingham Group Contracting are the principal contractors for the stadium construction (recently responsible for conversion of the National Hockey Stadium for temporary football use). Partner, Kevin Underwood, was formerly responsible for stadia development at Birse Construction, where he built Reading's Madjeski Stadium and undertook the major ground extension of Old Trafford for Manchester United
-
When all phases of the stadium development are completed by 2008, it is expected that in excess of 3,500 jobs will have been created for Milton Keynes
The superstores could be open as soon as Christmas of 2005, whilst the stadium is due to open in time for the 2006/07 Football League campaign
