John Brockwell and Ben Dyer of the MKDSA presented a cheque to the CITY DONS, the youth group for young people with special needs based at the Mathiesen Youth and Community Centre in Bradville.

The presentation of a cheque for £150 is made by MK Dons Supporters Association on behalf of 4-4-2 Magazine. The Dons Supporters Association was successful in negotiating a donation from 4-4-2 to be given to a local group of the Association’s choice.

The money will be used to expand football activities for the City Dons, who currently enjoy one-hour football coaching each week from Football in the Community coaches

Football First and the City Dons would like to express their thanks to 4-4-2 Magazine and the MK Dons Supporters Association for their most valued support in this venture.

PERSON IN THE OFFICE AND HELP CHILDREN WITH CANCER AND LEUKAEMIA THIS CHRISTMAS!

Job promotions, endless cups of tea made for you, and guaranteed first picks from the biscuit barrel await people in Milton Keynes with the foresight to register for CLIC Sargent’s ‘Win A Day Off Work’ initiative.  The scheme, which runs throughout December (Child  Cancer Awareness Month), offers one lucky person in each office taking part, the chance to win an extra day’s annual leave, to do with as they please – Fantastic!

Roger Widdecombe of CLIC Sargent explains: “‘Win A Day Off Work’ is a great fundraiser and taking part could not be easier.  All you have to do is ask the boss to donate an extra day’s holiday instead of raffling a bottle of wine, or box of chocolates for the office Christmas party and raffle that instead.  All your colleagues buy a raffle ticket – and for just £1 each you might be the lucky winner of a special day off work – just think of it as an extra ‘Bank Holiday’ for the New Year!”

Win A Day Off Work

Need an extra day’s holiday?! CLIC Sargent, the leading children’s cancer charity is urging companies throughout the UK to take part in Win a Day Off Work, a unique fundraising initiative. Just ask the boss to donate a day’s holiday then raffle it amongst the staff. Last December, 60,000 employees took part and this year CLIC Sargent is hoping to double that to support Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

It’s easy to take part! Simply sell as many tickets to your colleagues as you can and you could be the lucky one to Win a Day Off Work! Call 0845 121 1925 or visit www.clicsargent.org.uk/winadayoffwork to register for your FREE event pack.

“CLIC Sargent's day off Win a Day off Work is a great way to hit four birds with one stone.  The employer does something practical to help the community.  Individual employees contribute to a worthy cause and have fun doing it.  Children with cancer get more care.  And someone gets a day off work.  That's quite a pay-off from one event.”  Simon Sperryn, CEO, Lloyd's Market Association.

Register now so your company can help the 155 children who will be diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia this December.

Organising the ‘Win A Day Off Work’ raffle is really easy. You simply send for a ‘Win A Day Off Work’ pack which tells you exactly what you need to do, and includes all the materials you’ll need – from posters through to raffle tickets.

Jackie & Jeff Sheward of InsideoutMK in Wolverton are backing the Win A Day Off Work Christmas appeal and are urging lots of companies in Milton Keynes to get involved.  Jackie said about the initiative: “Win A Day Off Work is a really good idea – it’s simple to organise, and it’s great to know that while you and your colleagues are having fun at the office Christmas Party, you will also be helping children affected by cancer and leukaemia and your staff could all really look forward to the raffle draw and see which lucky person wins an extra day off work!”

The money raised by Win A Day Off Work will be used to support CLIC Sargent’s vital work helping children and their families affected by cancer and leukaemia every year including local families in MK.

For more information, or to register for your FREE Win A Day Off Work event pack, call 0845 121 1925 or visit www.clicsargent.org.uk/winadayoffwork

December is Child Cancer Awareness Month.  During the month, 155 children and young people will be diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia. Their families will be thrown into turmoil – full of fear and bewilderment, their lives turned upside down.  Their household costs can soar, whilst their income levels are likely to plummet, as they struggle to take care of their very sick child.  CLIC Sargent is working hard to ensure that these families are supported every step of the way and is currently campaigning to get better financial support for families.

·       CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity, www.clicsargent.org.uk

·       Every 48 hours, 10 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia. CLIC Sargent acts as a lifeline keeping families together when the unimaginable happens.  We provide clinical, psychosocial, emotional and financial care and support to them and their families.

Community Cup 2005

The third annual Football Festival was held on the Astroturf at the new Tattenhoe Pavilion Leisure and Community facility courtesy of MK Council, and is held as part of Milton Keynes celebrations of Black History during the month of October.

This year, for the first time, a young players event was held, with under 10's playing skills challenges followed by 3 v 3 football. Under 12's and under 14's played 6-a-side football, and under 16's played a version of Nike Scorpion style 3 v 3 football. The junior event was supported by MK Dons FITC coaches who delivered coaching advice as part of the festival.

The eventual winners were:

Under 12's - MK Dons Supporters Association
Under 14's - MK Durbar FC
Senior Cup - MK Durbar FC

12 adult teams competed for the community cup and included Punjab Utd from the Sikh Community, MK Durbar FC and FC Messengers from the Bangladeshi community, African Utd, Italians Are Us, Spotlight Allstars from the Lakes Estate Community, MK Dons FITC coaches, MK Dons Supporters Association, MK Council and MK Police.

Semi-finals saw Spotlight 2-0 victors over African Utd A, and last years winners, MK Durbar FC taken to penalties by MK Dons FITC. Durbar won the shoot-out 3-2. The final was a hotly contested affair with both teams desperate to lift the trophy. Spotlight took the lead, but were pegged back in the second half with Durbar scoring a deserved equaliser, thus taking the game into a penalty shoot-out. After three penalties each the teams were level, nerves on edge as it was now sudden death! Spotlight hit the bar and Durbar scored to lift the cup for the second time. The coaches edged Africans Utd to third place with a 2-0 victory.

Milton Keynes Football Community Cup

Sunday October 16th

MKDSA are compiling a list of members who wish to be involved in helping in some way, large or small, at this event.

The gates open for volunteers at 8am, and all help is appreciated. If you can spend an hour or two, or all day if you want, there is plenty to be done. Don’t be put off by the early start, if you can come along later that is fine. What we need is details of when you would be able to attend and for how long, and we can then co ordinate this information.

A lot of general help is needed in setting up, fetching and carrying, clearing away afterwards. Also, there is a need for persons to keep scores, linesmen, referees, etc.

If you want to be part of this fun day, please send your details to us at or by post to MKDSA , PO Box 7294, Milton Keynes, MK8 0ZE

Milton Keynes Community Local Infrastructure Partnership (MKCLIP) and the
Voluntary and Community Sector Assembly (VACSA)

The meeting  which was held on Tuesday 14th June 2005 at Acorn House in CMK.

was for all voluntary and community groups in Milton Keynes to discuss happenings in the area. To put into a little bit of context, it was attended by various voluntary groups ranging from MKDSA to Parish Councils, Women at Work, Racial Equality, CHIPS and various others.MKDSA have been involved with CVO and benefited from their services for some time now, and the event was seen as a good opportunity to further our interest and involvement with local community groups and to benefit from the information to be presented.Milton Keynes Dons Supporters Association were represented at the event by Committee Member Ben Dyer, who has detailed a brief report on the 4 main points covered during the evening.

1)      The Community Strategy - A Vision for Milton Keynes - out now! Pick up your copy of this blueprint for the future of Milton Keynes. The Community
Strategy outlines the work we have to do together in order to build our city
the way we want it.

A copy of this was obtained and will be discussed at next committee meeting. It talks about the development of Milton Keynes and how we can build the community at the same time. There is an interesting part when they talked to the public of MK and asked what they wanted to see. One of these was a Football League club in MK. This shows how important this is to the MK public and the opportunity we have to develop links with MK to promote the club and its supporters.

2)      MK2031, Starting this summer - Community Events to plan for the growth of MK over the next 25 years. Find out how to have your say.

It was interesting to note that using current population and growth statistics, Milton Keynes will be the 12th biggest city/town in the UK in 2031. There will also be 70,000 more homes built. So the potential fan base is there to see. So whilst the performance of the club will be paramount it does also mean we need to ensure we really build the SA to be able to function effectively for more members in the future. We should be aiming to tap into this growing population. This again is a subject for ongoing discussion and action at next committee meeting.

3)      The Milton Keynes Compact and Codes of Good Practice -make sure you have all the latest news on these important documents, which should affect the way you work with the public sector and funding bodies.

Another handout was obtained re this subject.. This is something that is being proposed so that voluntary and community groups are consulted in the expansion of MK..

4)      Tour the recently re-furbished Acorn House - find out how the services can
support your group.

Acorn House is purposely owned and used for voluntary and community organisations. Although, they do rent out to commercial organisations to make it sustainable. What they are proposing is a membership scheme to Acorn House, which would enable voluntary groups to use the facilities at Acorn House. This ranges from meetings, conferences, tele/video conferencing, IT training, hot desking, meet and greet with other groups. They also talked about bulk purchases, such as paper, photocopying, franking, etc. The finer details of this are not yet available but we will keep in close contact and hope to make full  use of any facilities that will aid MKDSA in achieving its objectives.

The evening proved to be informative and interesting and Ben has prepared a full report which will be looked at by the SA Committee in detail to see how MKDSA can be more actively involved and make better use of the provisions available to us as a group not only for the benefit of our present members but also with a view to the future.
