Statement From The Supporters Club.
We would like to express our disappointment and lack of consultation at the name change. A vote was promised and that did not happen.
We recently expressed our view on the letter to Inter MK dated 8th June 2004 in which the committee voted 15 – 0 to keep ‘Wimbledon’ in the new name.
We recently held a phone vote from our website to show that a vote could be carried out within a very tight timescale and to get the view from those in MK that view the site. The result of the vote was 55% in favour of keeping the name Wimbledon FC.
We are disappointed that we didn’t receive stronger support from the football league considering the recommendations that were made during the 3 man commission report.
While we appreciate that inter MK had mitigating circumstances and difficult time constraints we expect this type of action to be the exception and not the rule. This club needs to be run with the trust of the supporters behind it.
We are seeking to establish a formal communication channel with the club to prevent this happening in the future.
This has now made us more determined to challenge for the rights of our members of the supporters club.
However this name change will not deter us from continuing to support the players and staff of the football team whom we have built up a close relationship with. We cannot desert them when they need our support the most.
As supporters of the club and not necessarily the decision to change the name, we are looking forward to the next season supporting the lads in the Coca-Cola League one.
